Bush Park was the property once owned by the city famous Asahel Bush, who
lived in Bush house, started the Statesman paper, and founded the
Ladd and Bush bank. A large part of the park was originally
used as grazing ground for livestock.
On January 15, 1917, A.N. and Lulu H. Bush
Quitclaimed deeded 57 acres to the City of Salem. The deed stated
six conditions that must be followed. These were some of the conditions:
the park must be used as a public park and playground and it must be known
as 'Bush's Pasture' or other Bush names. The only time that any of
the conditions was broken was when the city sold part of the park to
Willamette for a stadium in 1946.
"Bush Park."
