The Gilbert House is one of two Queen Anne style houses in Salem.  It was built 1887 for Andrew T. Gilbert. C.A. Robert was the Architect of the house.  A. T. Gilbert was in a partnership with his brother Frank for the Salem Banking house of Gilbert Brothers.  He was also a trustee of Pacific University in Forest Grove. Frank Gilbert had  a son named A.C. Gilbert. A.C. was a toy manufacturer and inventor.  Among his inventions were the Erector Set. City of Salem bought the Gilbert house in 1985 and the museum opened December 15, 1989.
