"Ladd and Bush"

The Ladd and Bush building was established Mar 29, 1869 by Asahel Bush (of Bush house and paper) and W.S. Ladd (of Ladd and Tilton Bank in Portland).   When this building was constructed, Salem had about 2000 citizens.  The cast iron on this building was from the same source as Portland's Bank's cast iron.  It has been enlarged 2 or 3 times.  In 1940,  it merged with the Salem branch of the United States National Bank of Portland.   In 1967,  it was remodeled; the were new walls and cast iron decoration.
